DPS Provides You with Controlled and Cost-Effective Legacy Migration Solutions

Our last few years have shown a shift in our client demographics. For many years, our clients used DPS solutions to migrate from legacy equipment. In the last several years, however, most of our system deployments have been "new installations" or "complete system replacements".

Now, we are seeing a new wave of "legacy system migration" opportunities coming our way. We really enjoy these kinds of deployments, because we love watching the reaction of our clients when they experience the difference in speed and functionality relative to their older systems (Yes, we know it's not a "fair" comparison, but it is reality).

It also reminds us of the fact that there are still lots of companies out there trying to make due with monitoring gear way past its prime. The underlying philosophy is many companies either choose to or have to "use the old system 'til it breaks". We certainly understand the business reasons for that kind of thinking. Unfortunately, when a legacy system does fail, now you're dealing with an emergency response situation.

The value that DPS brings to the table, as you will see in this e-zine, is that we can provide you with a controlled, cost-effective migration instead of a full network swap-out.

This issue of The Protocol also features a SCADA update, as well a new technical knowledge paper on how to set up analog inputs on the NetGuardian 832A to work with analog sensors.

Production Department Update:
Over the past few months, we have been bringing new automated production machines online. The good news is you might have noticed that we have been substantially shortening our standard delivery times.

Best Regards,

New DPS Products and Features Provide You With Even More Value

We've dedicated part of this May issue of The Protocol to T1 monitoring. As a follow-up to our NG216T product announcement, we wanted to provide a deeper insight into T1 monitoring with our new white paper. We've also included a case study examining how Consolidated Communications is monitoring using T1 technology.

One of the many decisions we have to make at DPS with respect to product development is deciding which features go into a DPS release. At a certain point, we do have to draw the release cutoff line. In T/Mon, this is particularly challenging because we always want to add that next and greatest feature. But if we never drew a hard line on release, we would never get an update out. Based on feedback from our recent factory training sessions, we've added some very handy shortcuts and features to the ASCII processor. Since these were added after our 5.0A cutoff date, they were not part of the 5.0A release. However, since we think these changes will be very helpful to our many ASCII users, we are making these changes immediately available by special request for our T/Mon Gold Plan owners.

In this issue, you'll also learn about the NetGuardian Test Box, which is a product that started out as an in-house diagnostic tool for the NetGuardian 832A & NetGuardian DX. Now, it's available to you as part of our product line.

Welcome To Summer!

Welcome to summer. Kids are out of school. The days are longer. It's that time of year when many people go on vacation. If you are going on vacation, all of us at DPS hope you have a great time. Here's a quick DPS vacation checklist:

  • Make sure all your remote monitoring equipment is up prior to your trip.
  • Has the person filling in for you been to DPS Factory Training?
  • Have you rescheduled your T/Mon to notify someone else? If you never are unplugged from your network, at least make yourself the second person on the escalation chain.
  • Have you ordered or approved all the monitoring gear your engineers will need?
  • Have you backed up your data? You'll need it if others help you a bit too much while you're gone.
  • Don't forget the sunblock!

We're getting close to the halfway point of the year. Our engineers have been working on some pretty interesting things, and you will get a sneak peak in our next issue.

In this issue, we will focus on several aspects of TL1 protocol.

By special request for all of you who have been asking for a single document that details our product families, we have created a 2007 Product Showcase. You will be surprised to find out how many new and improved products we have.

Finally, if you need to locally issue a control in the field in response to certain conditions, then you will find the Derived Control techno knowledge paper included in this issue very helpful.

Best Regards,

Eric Storm, President of DPS Telecom
